Riga Welcomes Foreign Media Representatives

16th-19th November, the “Latvian Literature” platform and the Latvian Institute are hosting a visit for highly esteemed arts journalists from Germany, Great Britain and Switzerland. During the visit, the guests will be learning more about the publishing industry in Latvia and enjoying a wide range of cultural events around Riga.

The guest journalists are scheduled to attend the National Library of Latvia, meet the “Latvian Literature” platform team (representative Juta Pīrāga) and learn more about the literary promotional campaign #iamintrovert (creative director, Una Rozenbauma). They will also be attending lectures on book printing and publishing possibilities in Latvia (director of the Jelgavas Tipogrāfija printing house, Ģirts Karlsons), contemporary Latvian literature (literary critic Anda Baklāne), illustration and book art in Latvia (illustrator and children’s author Rūta Briede), and the Latvian book market (president of the Latvian Publishers' Association, Renāte Punka). The journalists will also be meeting up with poets from the Orbita Group, illustrators and authors, will go on a city tour and the most interesting bookshops, and attend a multimedia dance performance “Abas malas” (“Both Edges”).

The journalists visiting Riga are Gerrit Tillmann Siegfried Bartels ( literary editor at Der Tagesspiegel, Germany), Raphaela Sabel (editor in chief at Schweizer Buchhandel, Switzerland), Paul Ingendaay (FAZ Europa, writer, Germany), Boyd Miles Tonkin (contributor to FTLifeArts, EconCulture, Spectator, Theartsdesk Adviser, Man Booker International; '100 Best Novels in Translation', UK), and Anna Maria Espsäter (freelance journalist, UK).
