Marja Leinonen (b.1946) is a teacher and translator. From 1975 to 2004 she was a part-time teacher in Russian language and literature (University of Helsinki), a lecturer in General linguistics (University of Helsinki), and Slavonic philology (University of Tampere). She is currently Docent at the Department of Modern Languages, Helsinki. She began studying Latvian and Lithuanian at the University of Helsinki in 2004. She holds a PhD in General Linguistics from the University of Helsinki.
Leinonen is the author of more than 100 scientific publications - articles and monographs on verbal categories, definiteness, morphosyntax, sociolinguistics and language contacts (Finnish-Russian, Russian-Komi-Zyrian), history of Fenno-Ugristics, typology (Finnic and Baltic languages), as well as several translations of Latvian literature into Finnish.
