Marja Leinonen (1946 - 2019) was a teacher and translator. From 1975 to 2004 she was a part-time teacher in Russian language and literature (University of Helsinki), a lecturer in General linguistics (University of Helsinki), and Slavonic philology (University of Tampere). She began studying Latvian and Lithuanian at the University of Helsinki in 2004. She held a PhD in General Linguistics from the University of Helsinki.
Leinonen is the author of more than 100 scientific publications - articles and monographs on verbal categories, definiteness, morphosyntax, sociolinguistics and language contacts (Finnish-Russian, Russian-Komi-Zyrian), history of Fenno-Ugristics, typology (Finnic and Baltic languages), as well as several translations of Latvian literature into Finnish.
