Jānis Tomašs was born in 1984, Vecpiebalga, and currently lives in Riga. Tomašs studied in Vecpiebalga gymnasium, Smiltene Technical School (chef, waiter), and now works in the Riga Municipal Police. His literary works have earned him the Annual Latvian Literature Award for best debut – poetry collection “Melnie darba cimdi” (The Black Work Gloves), as well as A Kilogram of Culture Award in Literature 2016, and Dzintars Sodums Award for innovation in literature.
