Brenda Lelie (1984) studied psychology in the Netherlands. After falling in love with Latvia and moving to an old wooden house in a Latvian forest she discovered that no Latvian literature had yet been translated directly from Latvian to Dutch and decided to pick up this task. She took part in literary mentor programs both in Latvia and the Netherlands. In 2023 her first translation (Moedermelk, after Nora Ikstena's Mātes piens) was published by Uitgeverij Koppernik. Literary magazine Terras published translations from her hand of five short stories from Andris Kuprišs. At the moment she is working on a translation of Gulta ar zelta kāju (The bed with the golden leg) from Zigmunds Skujiņš.
