Louise de Brisson has cultivated an interest in Latvian culture and language since her early adulthood. She studied Latvian language on and off while pursuing a career in human rights. When she became a mother in 2019, she decided to go back to her first calling and work towards becoming a translator. She enrolled in a literary translation M.A. at the National Institute for Eastern Languages and Cultures (INALCO) in Paris. In 2021 she participated in a mentorship programme for young translators organised by Latvian Literature, and together with Gita Grīnberga translated short stories by Svens Kuzmins.
In 2022, she started teaching translation, Latvian literature and culture at INALCO. Her first translation, Laura Vinogradovas Upe (La Rivière), was published by Les Éditions Bleu & Jaune in 2024.
